Does the new law (RRO) apply to me?

Yes it does. The new Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order applies to EVERY business. In basic terms it places a duty of care on the Employer, Occupier or Owner as the Responsible Person. It is your role as a responsible person to appoint a Competent Person to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment of the premises. I do not have anybody within my business who is suitable or available to carry out the Risk Assessment. I also do not have the time to commit to this.

The new law recognises the fact many small and medium sized businesses do not have the resources in time or money to have an employee committed to this work and therefore allows for the use of professional, external assistance to complete the Fire Risk Assessment.
